CENTRALIA, IL — Due to a staff member in the school testing positive for COVID-19, Centralia Junior High and Middle School are going on full remote learning for the rest of this week, starting Tuesday morning.

The district says it’s working with the local health departments to promptly identify and monitor individuals who have had recent contact with the COVID-19 positive individual to prevent further spread within the school and community.

The school will also be cleaned and disinfected.

Staff members and students who are identified as having had prolonged close contact to the confirmed COVID-19 case will be placed in quarantine for 14 days.  Close contacts will also receive a separate notification from the local health department.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were scheduled as in-person learning but Friday was already scheduled to be a full remote day.

Lunch will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the same manner that students are scheduled to receive the meals on Friday.

Schiller and Jordan School will still be in attendance in person.

PATOKA, IL — Due to confirmed cases among staff and students, Patoka High School is going on full remote learning for 14 days starting Tuesday. Students will return to in-class learning on Friday, September 25th.

In a letter to the community, Superintendent David Rademacher,  says all assignments during the 14 day period will count and daily attendance will be taken.

Teachers will reach out to parents in the event students do not participate during this time.

Breakfast and lunch will be available to pick up starting at 12:45 Tuesday afternoon.  Requests for breakfast and lunch can be made by calling the school before 9 am.

Rademacher is asking parents to continue to monitor the health of their children and report to the school nurse if they exhibit signs and symptoms of illness.  He also encourages limiting children from going out in public for the next 14 days.

Rademacher asks for all Patoka families’ patience and understanding during these complicated times and know they care deeply for the students and will continue to work hard to do what is best for them.
