MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Police Department arrested a Fairfield man Sunday after receiving a report of shots fired in the area of 19th & Perkins.
18-year-old Donovan A. Lurz was arrested after police received information that he was following a vehicle that the shot had been fired from, and an officer observed the suspected vehicle fleeing from the scene.
During a traffic stop of the vehicle, two occupants were detained and firearms located. Both occupants were transported to the Mt. Vernon Police Department (MVPD) for interviewing.
As a result of the investigation, Lurz was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center on charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. His bond is to be set.
The second occupant was released pending further investigation.
