ILLINOIS — Ameren Illinois has partnered with not-for-profit Distress Bandanna in promoting teen driver safety, especially with regards to downed power line vehicle safety.

Vivian Anderson is the founder of Distress Bandanna. She says they use multiple venues to get their driving safety message out to young people.

Anderson says they also actively use social media in raising awareness for driver safety.

If you are involved in an accident with a downed power line, you should not exit the vehicle until utility crews arrive and de-energize the line. If your car were to start smoking or catch fire, you should jump out of the vehicle by keeping your feet together and not touching the ground and car at the same time. Once out of the vehicle, you should shuffle or bunny hop away from the vehicle while keeping your feet together.
