Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, State of Illinois Seeing Increase in Vote-By-Mail Applications

JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Illinois State Board of Elections recently announced that more than one million Illinois voters have requested a vote-by-mail ballot for the upcoming November election. The number of requests statewide puts Illinois on pace to substantially exceed the record for voting by mail set in the last election, where 430,000 votes were cast by mail, which accounted for about 9.3 percent of the total ballots.

In Jefferson County, County Clerk Connie Simmons says about 2,000 voters have signed up for mail-in voting out of about 24,000 registered voters in the county. She says while the final number of people who register to vote by mail in the county may not hit the state’s expectations, she does expect even more mail-in registrations to come in.

If you would like to register to vote by mail and do not have an application, you can call the County Clerk’s office, go to the county’s website and print one, or go to the Illinois State Board of Election’s website and print an application there as well.
