ISP Reminding Drivers of School Bus Safety Laws

ILLINOIS — School is back in session, and with the return to classes in the school building for most, that means busses are out and about getting children to school and back home safely. Illinois State Police are reminding residents of the state’s school bus safety laws.

ISP Trooper Josh Robinson says there are multiple signs to look for when driving near a school bus during pick up or drop off hours.

On two lane roads, all cars must stop for a bus’s stop sign, while on four lane roads, only the cars driving the same direction as the bus must stop.

Robinson says just because an officer is not around does not mean you will get away with going around a stopped school bus. Busses are equipped with cameras and police can send you a citation in the mail.
