ILLINOIS — There have now been more than 200,000 confirmed cases on the novel coronavirus in Illinois since the pandemic started earlier this year.

The IDPH announced that the state hit the unfortunate milestone on Thursday.

In Jefferson County, there are two new positive cases of COVID-19 related to long-term care facility outbreaks. One of those residents is hospitalized. Three other people have also tested positive for COVID-19, a girl under 13, and a male and a female both in their 70’s.

There are now 78 active cases of COVID-19 in Jefferson County.

The IDPH announced 1,834 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, and 24 additional deaths statewide. In addition to the more than 200,000 cases now confirmed in the state during the pandemic, nearly 7,700 Illinoisans have died of COVID-19.
