MCLEANSBORO — Jim Morris is the new Fire Chief in McLeansboro.

Morris was sworn in as chief Tuesday night at the McLeansboro City Council meeting.

Morris replaces LeRoy Browning, who retired after serving as chief since 2003.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, a representative from Shawnee Professional Services updated the council on the new water tower project, saying it is more than half complete. The council approved the latest pay requests for the project.

The council also discussed what they would like to see the amended parameters for a beer garden liquor license would look like, but action was tabled so the discussion could be sent to counsel to put an ordinance into writing.

The council also tabled action on a possible water main replacement at Meadow Crest. City council member Dale Biggerstaff told the council that the cost estimates for the project currently on file are not updated for the new length of the project, and he will have that estimate by the next council meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th at 6 p.m.
