JEFFERSON COUNTY — Although only one new confirmed of the novel coronavirus was reported the Jefferson County Health Department Tuesday, the department reported that five people at a long-term care facility have died from COVID-19 complications.

The new positive case is a teenage girl who is isolated at home. There are now 78 active cases of COVID-19 in Jefferson County, and 24 people in  the county have died of the novel coronavirus.

The health department continues to ask residents to stay home and away from others if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19. If you get tested, you should stay at home and remain in isolation while you wait on your test results.

If you test positive or are a close contact of a positive, you will be contacted by the health department and placed on isolation or quarantine to help prevent the spread of the virus. It is important to answer your phone for the department and adhere to the isolation and quarantine by staying home and away from others.
