New COVID cases pile up in Jefferson County over the weekend

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL —  Health officials on Monday reported 45 new positive cases of COVID-19 since Friday following another outbreak at a long-term care facility.

According to the health department, 20 residents and three employees of the facility reportedly tested positive Saturday, along with eight others in the community.

The positive tests include a boy under the age of 13, two men – one in his 20s and one in his 60s, four females – one in her 30s, one in her 40s, one in her 50s and one in her 60s, and a man in his 90s from a second long-term care facility.

On Sunday, another three residents from the second long-term care facility tested positive, along with a man in his 20s.

And on Monday, a 1-year-old boy tested positive, as did a woman in her 20s and a woman in her 60s.

The 45 new positive tests reported in Jefferson County since Friday brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Jefferson County to 303, with 80 residents currently in isolation, 207 released from isolation and 19 who have died.
