MT. VERNON, IL — Mt. Vernon police are investigating a reported shooting incident in the 2800 block of College Wednesday that sent two people to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
The call of the shooting came in around 4:15 p.m., when a female gunshot victim was transported to Crossroads Hospital Emergency Room before being taken to another hospital for treatment.
Mt. Vernon police officers reportedly took 44-year-old Alvin Smallwood of Mt. Vernon into custody shortly after arriving on scene.
While they were investigating the shooting, a call came from SSM Good Samaritan Hospital that a male gunshot victim had been brought into their Emergency Room.
Officers remained on the scene and continued to investigate.
Smallwood was charged with Aggravated Battery via the Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle, Armed Violence via the Discharge of a Weapon, and Felony Possession or use of a Weapon/Firearm.
