SALEM — A 20-year-old Salem man was arrested over the weekend following a high-speed pursuit on a motorcycle involving Illinois State Police and Salem Police officers.
Donald Fairchild was reportedly driving a stolen off-road motorcycle when state police noticed him near around 6:30 Saturday night near West Main and Westgate Avenue.
Salem police and ISP then engaged in an off and on pursuit of Fairchild but he was able to elude officers multiple times by racing across yards and off road.
He was ultimately taken into custody after a witness reported seeing him arrive home on the motorcycle.
Police took Fairchild into custody on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, operating an off-road vehicle on a public road, driving without a valid license or registration, driving without insurance, improper lane usage and driving 50 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
He initially denied to police that he possessed the motorcycle but it was ultimately found behind his home. They later discovered the motorcycle had been stolen from a home in Kinmundy.
