JEFFERSON COUNTY — Four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Jefferson County Health Department Friday.

According to the health department, two males in their 20’s, a male in his 30’s and a female in her teens have tested positive for the virus.

Department officials say there are currently 20 active cases of the virus in the county that are currently in isolation. 135 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began.

Across Illinois, 1,384 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the IDPH Friday, including 22 additional deaths. There are now just over 159,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Illinois since the pandemic began. 7,272 Illinoisans have died of COVID-19.

In positive news, the IDPH is reporting that for the second day in a row, the state was able to test 40,000 people for the second day in a row thanks to community based and mobile testing sites. The mobile testing sites will continue to visit counties in Illinois to ensure all residents have access to COVID-19 testing in their communities.
