SOUTHERN ILLINOIS — Summertime has returned to Southern Illinois, and with it, heat and humidity have come back to blanket the area. One local health department is reminding residents on how they can beat the heat.

Kari Lane with the Egyptian Health Department says the best way to stay cool would be to avoid the heat if possible.

In addition to sunscreen, Lane says residents need to protect from the sun and can do that by wearing longer clothing. She says staying in shade and staying hydrated will also protect you from the sun’s rays.
