MT. VERNON, IL — The City of Mt. Vernon has amended the water service agreement with the Village of Woodlawn. The City Council approved an extension during Monday’s meeting to continue to sell water to Woodlawn for 40 years.

Woodlawn’s average purchase amount from Mt. Vernon is around 6,060,000 gallons per month. City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says new to this partnership is Woodlawn is now responsible for storage of their water.

The Council said this will not affect rates for either Mt. Vernon or Woodlawn. Rates for water are received every 5 years from the Rend Lake Conservancy District.
