MT. VERNON, IL — Each spring the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary awards scholarships to a designated number of high school seniors who live in the hospital’s service area. As required, each scholarship recipient has committed to pursuing a healthcare related career path. In 2020 the Good Samaritan hospital Auxiliary sponsored four $750.00 scholarships and the Warren-Holler family sponsored two $750.00 scholarships, making a total of six scholarships awarded. Application packets were distributed to area high schools in December of 2019 and the successful scholarship winners were selected in May of 2020.

The two Warren-Holler scholarships were awarded to Jayla Eubanks and Daniel Song. Jayla graduated from Benton Consolidated High School and plans to attend Rend Lake College in Ina, IL pursuing an Associate degree in nursing. Daniel graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and has been accepted into the Baccalaureate-Doctor of Medicine program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in Kansas City, MO.

The remaining four $750.00 scholarships were awarded to Emma Benderky, Mady Darr, Jasmine Devor and Dusti Ann Schoreck. Emma Benderky lives in Mt. Vernon, IL and graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School in June of 2020. She is planning to attend Maryville University in St. Louis, MO where she will be working toward a degree in physical therapy. Mady Darr lives in Benton, IL and graduated from Benton Consolidated High School. She will be attending Rend Lake College in Ina, IL where she will be working toward physician’s assistant credentials in the field of dermatology. Jasmine Devore lives in Salem, IL and graduated from Salem Community High School. She plans to attend Kaskaskia College, Centralia, IL majoring in nursing. Dusti Ann Schoreck also lives in Salem, IL and graduated from Salem Community High School. She will be attending Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL pursuing dual credentials in radiology and sonography.
