NASHVILLE, IL — For the first time since World War 2, the Washington County fair board has decided to cancel the 2020 fair.

President of the board, Rhonda Mueller cited health and safety concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic as the main factor in the decision to cancel the event. The board says this decision comes in accordance with the Washington County Health Department after many conversations were had about the uncertainty on whether or not the state would be re-opened by fair time.

The Restore Illinois Plan is currently in phase 3, allowing no more than 10 people in one area at a time. Phase 4 was anticipated on starting June 26th and the fair could only be held if the state was in Phase 5. Other major events, like the Hofbraufest, which is normally the same weekend as the fair, have also been cancelled.

The fair board would like to thank everyone who gave donations and supported the fair, as they look forward to being together in 2021.
