CENTRALIA, IL — Bail has been set at $50,000 for a 32-year-old Centralia man accused of battery of a Centralia police officer during a Sunday incident.

According to police, Evan Winkoff was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery after a CPD officer was injured Sunday during an incident involving Winkoff that resulted in the officer being treated at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

Officers had reportedly responded to a home in the 200 block of East Sixth where residents had asked Winkoff to leave only to have him become argumentative and combative.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital and was subsequently referred to a specialist for further treatment. He will remain off work for an undermined amount of time.

Winkoff reportedly wasn’t injured in the incident and was taken to the Marion County Jail where he appeared Monday morning via satellite for a first appearance.

He was charged with Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a peace officer and bail was set.

He’s next scheduled to appear June 6 for a preliminary hearing and first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.
