MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Township High School Board of Education accepted the resignation of long-time Educator, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Boys Basketball Coach Doug Creel at Monday night’s meeting.

Creel is the winningest basketball coach in Rams history with nearly 350 wins over a 19-year span. He is an alum of MVTHS and member of the Rams Sports Hall of Fame. He is also member of the Rend Lake College Sports Hall of Fame. After a successful 2-year stint at Rend Lake as a player, Creel also played college hoops at Jacksonville State in Alabama.

Superintendent of MVTHS Jeff Fritchnitch says Creel will continue his responsibilities on a limited basis to aid in the transition of a replacement.

The MVTHS Board also employed Trevor Durham as the new Head Football Coach during the meeting.
