HARRISBURG — As we all adjust to the new normal life of the COVID-19 pandemic, resident’s shopping habits are adapting as well.

Harrisburg mayor John McPeek says while many residents are staying at home, because of the community’s location in rural southeast Illinois, people aren’t traveling far from home to get what they need, and keeping dollars local.

McPeek says Shawnee National Forest sites being shut down could cost businesses and the city money, but it’s too early in the season to know how big of an impact that will have on the community.
