MT. VERNON, IL — Two Mt. Vernon residents were arrested Thursday morning on gun and drug charges.

The Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High Risk Team served a narcotics related search warrant at 1116 South 26th Street around 7:45 Thursday morning. A search of the residence resulted in methamphetamine, firearms with serial numbers defaced, and drug equipment being found.

36-year-old April L. Penrod was arrested on charges of Armed Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, and Possession of Firearms with Defaced Serial Numbers. Officers also arrested Jacob L. Bulthius, 22 years old, for Possession of Firearms with Defaced Serial Numbers.

Both subjects are incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set.
