Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says medical researchers are learning more about how coronavirus reacts in the body. She says people are infecting others before the onset of symptoms and there is a specific time when someone with COVID-19 is the most contagious.
However, the state is starting to follow through on the promise of more testing. The Governor says new stand-up testing facilities are coming to more parts of the state and testing supplies are being made as well as provided with the help of the state’s universities. Gov. JB Pritzker says you will no longer need doctor’s orders to get a test.
Illinois has automated machines now up and working correctly at state labs. The five new machines should allow for thousands more tests to be completed each day.
The state reported 1,842 new cases on Friday and 62 deaths. That report brings the total numbers of cases in the state to 27,575 and the death total sits at 1134.
