JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Jefferson County Health Department was notified Wednesday afternoon of the first death due to COVID-19 in the county.

A male in his fifties from Texas who was hospitalized and diagnosed on March 26th passed away earlier today (Wednesday)

According to the Health Department, Jefferson County has only 3 lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 which includes the man from Texas. JCHD also expects more cases to be confirmed locally in the coming weeks.

The number of cases can be reduced by adhering to the Governor’s stay at home order, washing hands frequently, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and maintaining space from others when in public.
