ILLINOIS (RFD) — Corona virus stimulus money, up to $3,400 per household for a family of four, is expected to go out by late April. Tax specialist Laura Hipes of Ottawa, Illinois says if you get Social Security or have filed an income tax return in the last couple years and the IRS can still find you, you shouldn’t have to do anything more to get it. But it might be a good idea for some people who haven’t had to file tax returns to do so now.
Hipes say as accountants learn about the stimulus program, so is the IRS. She says even though the CARES Act says Social Security recipients will be paid automatically, she’s seen an IRS memo that suggests otherwise. Hipes says she hopes the IRS corrects that error.
