CENTRALIA, IL — A Centralia police officer who was the subject of a body cam video recently released by the police department has reportedly been suspended for five-days without pay.

Officer Billy White has also been removed from the Field Training program and will be required to attend additional training for sensitivity and anger management.

According to a March 13th letter to White that was shared by CPD, White’s suspension comes as a result of his actions during a March 7th, encounter with a father and daughter who had stopped to help a man they found lying on the ground near the 13th Street rail crossing.

The letter states that White’s actions were unprofessional and belittled and ridiculed the citizens he was interacting with during the encounter.

White arrested the man after he refused to give him his name and informed White that he did not have an ID.

The letter goes on to say that White’s interactions with a fellow employee during the event was disrespectful, discourteous and did not foster an environment conducive to a sense of teamwork and cooperation.

Police Chief Greg Dodson reminds White in the letter that the discipline will remain on his personnel file. The discipline was immediately effective as of the March 13th date of the letter.
