MT. VERNON — In an effort to get everyone in the Mt. Vernon area counted in this year’s census, multiple entities will be opening their doors and letting residents have free computer access to fill out the census starting Monday.

Mt. Vernon’s census liaison Lori Ulrich says in the 2010 census, about 1/4 of the total county population was not counted, costing the area millions of tax dollars in the last decade.

The city of Mt. Vernon has also started an initiative for residents who take the census online to receive a $10 VISA gift card. For more information on the census, the city’s incentive program, or where to fill out the census, you can contact Ulrich at City Hall at 242-5000.
