CLAY COUNTY, IL — 42-year-old Bridget Kerrick of Salem was killed when a deer that was struck by a school bus went through the windshield of the vehicle she was riding in on U.S. 50 in Clay County Tuesday afternoon. Kerrick was transported to Clay Clay County Hospital where she succumbed from her injuries at the Juniper Road crash.
Illinois State Police say the school bus, which had no passengers at the time, was traveling east on route 50 when the deer entered the roadway from the south side. The bus hit the deer head-on, the deer went airborne before striking the front windshield of the westbound car driven by 53-year-old Samuel Kerrick of Salem carrying Bridget Kerrick in the passenger seat.
Samuel Kerrick was taken to Clay County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the school bus, 72-year-old Lawrence Northrop of Flora was not injured.
