CENTRALIA, IL — An abandoned house in Centralia that was scheduled for demolition was destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning. A passerby in the 1000 block of South Marion spotted the fire around 2:30 a.m. Saturday and alerted the fire department.

Upon their arrival, Centralia City firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames and all available firefighters were called to battle the blaze. Due to the home being vacant and without utilities, the fire is deemed suspicious. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined. A broke water line on South Locust made fighting the blaze difficult for firefighters who remained on the scene for nearly five hours.

The home was almost completely leveled by the fire that burned through the roof. No injuries were reported.
