MARION COUNTY, IL — Bail has been set at $10,000 for a 35-year-old Centralia woman accused of knocking an elderly man down in his home and then stealing as much as $100 from his wallet while he was on the floor.

Sharica O’Neal was arrested Sunday by Centralia police in connection with an October 19 incident at the alleged victim’s home on Echo Lane south of Centralia. She was later turned over to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office who is in charge of the investigation.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies say O’Neal was acquainted with the man and had approached him outside to ask for money.

After following him inside she reportedly knocked the man to the ground and took between $80 and $100 from his wallet, which she then reportedly handed back to him without the money. The man did not require medical treatment.

If O’Neal posts bond and is released from the Marion County Jail she’s prohibited from having contact with the victim.

She’s scheduled for a March 11 preliminary hearing but has indicated she will need time to hire a private attorney.
