Major Interstate Closure Starts Saturday in Metro East

ST. CLAIR COUNTY (RFD) — If you’re heading to the northeast suburbs of St. Louis, heads up! The Illinois Department of Transportation will close a 7-mile stretch of I-255 on Saturday for a major rehabilitation project expected to last most of the year. The section between Collinsville Road and Illinois 15 needs extensive repairs, and the plan is to close that segment completely through the duration of the project.

While official detours include interstates 55, 70, and 64, Illinois Routes 3, 15, 111, 157, 158, 159, 161 are also viable alternate routes, according to IDOT Construction Engineers. Illinois State Police Trooper Josh Korando says his agency is prepared for the inevitable glitches

The entire project should wrap up around Thanksgiving, at least the part that requires lane closures. If the weather forecast for early next week holds true with no precipitation and well-above-normal temperatures, IDOT plans on putting in as much work as possible to get this started.
