JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were presented with Life Saving Awards Monday night for their roles in saving a 4-year-old drowning victim in December.

Deputy Kevin Rodriguez and Captain Ryan Weeks were honored for their actions on December 22.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Telecommunicator Brandy May’s was given a commendation on a prior date for handling the call that led to Rodriguez finding the young girl in a pond and pulling her to safety.

According to earlier reports, Rodriguez was patrolling in the Dix area when he stopped to help a man searching for his 4-year-old daughter Ella.

Rodriguez found the child in a nearby pond and pulled her from the water. He and Weeks then performed life-saving CPR on the child.

Also recognized Monday night was Alexis Hurst, who was presented with her award for 2019 Telecommunicator of the year; Gilbert Haynes who was presented with an award for 2019 Correctional Officer of the year; and Kevin Rodroguez was presented with his award for 2019 Deputy of the year.
