MT. VERNON — The Jefferson County EMA is partnering with the National Weather Service to bring a Skywarn Spotter Class to Mt. Vernon in a few weeks. The class will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport.

While the class does not automatically make you a certified weather spotter, it is the first step in becoming a weather spotter. Jefferson County EMA Director Steve Lueker says because Mt. Vernon sits so far away from the nearest Doppler radars in Paducah and St. Louis, spotters to provide ground truth are even more critical in this area.

The class is free to the public. You can register for the class at the Paducah Weather Service Office’s website. If you have any questions, you can call the Jefferson County EMA at 244-8000, ext. 0.
