JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 29-year-old Mt. Vernon man was charged Tuesday in Jefferson County Court with multiple felonies in connection with the stabbing a 34-year-old Mt. Vernon man over the weekend.

Joshua Williams was charged with Class X felony armed violence, two counts Class 3 felony aggravated battery and Class 2 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says his office received notification from Good Samaritan Hospital just before 1 a.m. Monday about a stabbing victim at the hospital being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident occurred in 13,500 block of N. Harmony Lane in Jefferson County. The man ended up being transported to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.

After further investigation, Williams was taken into custody.

Bullard says Williams has a history of violent offenses prior to the incident Monday.

Williams remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $150,000.
