JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 29-year-old man is behind bars accused of stabbing a 34-year-old Mt. Vernon man over the weekend.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says his office received notification from Good Samaritan Hospital just before 1 a.m. Monday about a stabbing victim at the hospital being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The incident occurred in 13,500 block of N. Harmony Lane in Jefferson County. The man ended up being transported to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.

After further investigation, 29-year-old Joshua R. Williams was taken into custody in connection with the stabbing and charged with aggravated battery. Bullard says Williams has a history of violent offenses prior to the incident Monday. Williams remains in custody at the Jefferson County Justice Center.
