SPRINGFIELD, IL — Nurses who attended state-funded colleges in southern Illinois that didn’t pay to receive their accreditation could become ineligible for state and federal employment.

State Representative Terri Bryant says it costs a college anywhere between eighteen and $25,000 to become accredited. She says this lack of accreditation could cost an already licensed nurse a future state gig.

Regionally, according to Representative Bryant, the only state-funded college that paid to receive their accreditation was Kaskaskia College in Centralia. She hopes to introduce legislation that would help those eligible go after state employment if they so chose.
