CENTRALIA, IL — Another vacant house in Centralia has been destroyed by fire. Centralia firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 503 S. Maple shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and found fire in the area of the southeast part of the house.

Although firefighters were able to knock down the fire fairly quickly, it had unfortunately spread up a wall and into and across the entire attic of the structure forcing firefighters to pull back and work from the exterior once it broke through the roof.

All off-duty Centralia firefighters were called in to assist in battling the blaze, and the Centralia Fire Protection District and Sandoval Fire Protection District were called for mutual aid.

The Centralia FPD responded to the scene with extra manpower while Sandoval stood by at the main Centralia fire station in the event of another call.

Firefighters were on scene for over four hours.
