MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon City Council unanimously approved and gave permission for the City Manager to seek bids on the construction of the new United States Post Office (USPS) building.

City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says it was a team effort to get where they are today but she gave a lot of praise to Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna.

The new post office will be built at the corner of 10th and Jordan in downtown Mt. Vernon.

Last year, the city reached an agreement with Milano Metals and Recycling to redevelop the old Park Plaza building which the current post office resides. The land will be turned into a trans-loading rail facility.
