CENTRALIA, IL — Bail has been set at $200,000 for a 39-year-old Centralia woman charged in Marion County Court with the September drug-induced homicide of Mathew Proksha at his Centralia home.
Jeri Carpenter was as brought to court in a wheelchair Friday for the setting of bail after she was non-responsive during her arraignment in court Thursday.
Carpenter did hold her head up and respond during Friday’s proceedings.
She is accused of delivering heroin to Proksha that contained fentanyl and resulted in his death.
Drug-induced homicide is a Class X felony punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors had asked for bail for Carpenter to be set at $500,000 after saying she was a moderate to high risk to re-offend, while her court appointed attorney argued for bail to be set at $25,000 due to the defendant being a drug addict who was not dealing drugs to make a profit.
Carpenter is next scheduled to appear in court January 28th for a preliminary hearing. She remains held in the Marion County Jail.
