CARBONDALE — One person is dead following a report of a home invasion south of Carbondale just before 7 Wednesday night.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home where the residents reported that two men had forced their way inside and demanded money. It was reported that a struggle ensued over a firearm and shots were fired before the suspects fled from the home.
Then around 7:10 Wednesday night, Carbondale Police got a call from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale regarding a male who arrived with a life-threatening injury. Police responded and located at 17-year-old male victim who was later pronounced dead from a suspected gunshot wound.
Preliminary information suggests the two calls are connected. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
The sheriff’s office, Carbondale Police, the Jackson County Coroner’s Office and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office have assisted with this case.
