CENTRALIA — An early morning fire destroyed a vacant home Thursday in the 1000 block of North College in Centralia.

Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a reported possible structure fire just after midnight New Year’s Night and upon arrival found a single-story unoccupied home engulfed in flames at 1015 N. College with fire already shooting through the roof.

Firefighters worked from the exterior to bring the fire under control, and then moved to the interior to work on any remaining fire there as well.

The structure did reportedly have electric and gas service and Ameren was called to disconnect service.

Many of the windows and doors were boarded shut and made entry into the building difficult for firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
