PADUCAH, KY — A Paducah high school basketball coach who was arrested for DUI and other drug charges recently in Carbondale has resigned.

St. Mary’s Catholic School received a letter of resignation from Wesley Overstreet Tuesday. In it, Overstreet apologized for his actions and understood the gravity of the situation. The letter went on to say that he wants only the best for the team and the school system.

Overstreet was arrested Saturday morning after police said he was impaired and crash into a light pole but kept driving.

Overstreet was the head boys basketball coach at St. Mary’s. The team recently participated in the Paul Bates Memorial Carbondale Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The school named Chase Denson as the head boys basketball coach for the remainder of the season.
