ILLINOIS (RFD) — A part of the law that is going to legalize marijuana in Illinois for adult use is the expungment of past arrest records of non-violent drug offenses connected to marijuana possession. And now the first steps are being taken to wipe clean the records of past offenders. Democrat Governor JB Pritzker says early in the bill writing process this issue was brought to his attention and now he knows plenty of people whose lives have been impacted by a low level drug conviction.
The first expungments occurred this week in Cook County. Some past offenders may have their record cleared automatically others may have to petition the court for action.
