MT. VERNON — A Colorado man is facing multiple charges in connection with a traffic stop early Saturday morning in Mt. Vernon.

18-year-old Johnathan Turner was pulled over by Mt. Vernon Police on the I-57 southbound on-ramp for failing to signal a turn. Officers smelled weed in the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle. During that search, police found a loaded 9 mm rifle under the driver’s seat along with cannabis. Police found that the rifle was reported stolen out of Texas.

Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says the suspect admitted he was taking the weed to another state to sell the weed. He is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center charged with armed violence, manufacturing / delivery of cannabis between 30 and 500 grams, and possession of a stolen firearm.
