MT. VERNON — The new surveillance camera system in Mt. Vernon’s high-crime areas are almost fully operational. Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says about 35 of the roughly 45 cameras are installed and operational at this point.

Page says there are many features the cameras have that will help the department investigate and prevent crime.

Page believes all of the cameras will be up and running by next week. He says members of the department will also go through training soon to learn all of the system’s capabilities.
