WAMAC — One person was injured in a Sunday morning fire that caused heavy damage to one room of a mobile home in Wamac.

According to officials, they responded just after 8 a.m. Sunday to a fire at #11 Country View. A male resident, his girlfriend, a three-year-old boy, and a seven-year-old girl were inside the home at the time of the fire.

The male resident suffered from smoke inhalation and was checked at the scene by Lifestar Ambulance. He refused hospital treatment. A Wamac police officer was the first to arrive on the scene and helped all four occupants out of the home.

Authorities say the fire started in a bedroom at one end of the mobile home.

Firefighters with the Centralia Fire Protection District responded to the call and were able to quickly knock down the flames and keep the fire confined to the one bedroom.

The entire home, however, suffered heat and smoke damage and will likely be declared a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and will be investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
