SALEM, IL — A Kinmundy teenager was injured in a Wednesday night crash.

The 16-year-old boy was one of two drivers involved in the crash, which occurred just after 9:30pm on Illinois Route 37 at Kenco Road.

State police say a 16-year-old boy from Hillsboro was headed south on Route 37 when his vehicle swerved into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the vehicle driven by the Kinmundy teen. Both vehicles ended up off the highway.

The Kinmundy teen was taken to Salem Township Hospital. Police say the Hillsboro teen left the scene, claiming to be going to the hospital, but failed to arrive or make contact after the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation. At this point, the Hillsboro teen has been cited for improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions, leaving the scene of an injury crash, and failure to provide information.

In a previous news story, WMIX/WDML said the Hillsboro teen had been arrested. This was in fact not the case. WMIX/WDML had received some false information and we regret posting it.

State police did not provide the names of either driver.
