SALEM, IL — A 16-year-old juvenile male from Hillsboro has been charged in connection with another crash on Route 37 north of Salem Wednesday night, just two hours after a fatal crash occurred on the same stretch of road.

An Illinois State Police traffic crash report says the juvenile was traveling on route 37 south of Alma when he admitted to driving too fast for conditions, swerving into the northbound lane and striking a second vehicle head-on driven by a 16-year-old juvenile male from Kinmundy.

The Hillsboro teen left the scene claiming to be going to the hospital but failed to arrive or make contact after the incident. The Kinmundy juvenile was transported to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries after he was extricated from his vehicle by firefighters.

The crash occurred around 9:30pm and is still currently under investigation.
