MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon City Council passed an ordinance and an easement agreement in relation to the new post office at Monday night’s meeting.

The ordinance involved vacating the city alley that is between the four lots where the post office will be located, and the easement agreement is with Caritas Family Solutions which is located just south of the corner of 10th and Jordan where the new post office will be located.

Mt. Vernon City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says she the city is close to sending the new post office out for construction bids.

Bechtel says the goal is for the post office to be moved into the new building by August 2020.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the council approved the 2018-19 annual audit report, and they gave the city manager permission to seek bids for clearing of water and sewer easements in remote areas of the city.

The council will meet again Monday, November 18 at 7 p.m. at the Rolland Lewis Building at Veterans Park.
