SALEM — A 27-year-old Salem man was arrested over the weekend after he reportedly climbed the ladder of the Salem Fire Protection District truck carrying the American Flag over the Little Egypt Parade route Saturday.

According to Salem police, Russell Wimberly came down the ladder on his own before the parade started and was taken to the Marion County Jail on charges of burglary, criminal trespass to a vehicle and violating an order of protection from incidents earlier in the day.

The burglary and criminal trespass charges stemmed from an incident in which Wimberly is alleged to have entered a car parked outside a business on East Main Street in Salem and taken a shirt and a hat.

The protection order violation also is alleged to have taken place earlier Saturday in which he reportedly went to a prohibited residence in Salem.

Bail for Wimberly was set at $15,000 Monday in Marion County court.

He was formally charged with Class 3 felony burglary and misdemeanor violation of an order of protection.

He is scheduled for an October 30 preliminary hearing and first appearance with his court appointed attorney.
