JEFFERSON COUNTY –A 23-year-old Mt. Vernon man was charged Tuesday morning in Jefferson County court with armed home invasion and residential burglary for an incident early Sunday morning in Woodlawn.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded early Sunday morning to a report of suspicious activity at 210 N. Main Street in Woodlawn.
Upon arrival, deputies learned the residence had been broken into and a robbery had been attempted. Christien D. Akers located inside the residence and he was taken into custody.
Deputies learned other offenders had fled in a maroon colored Chevy. After locating the vehicle a short time later in close proximity to the scene, deputies identified other juvenile offenders.
Detectives were called out to assist the investigation. Akers was arrested for attempted armed robbery and taken to the Jefferson County Jail. His bail was set Tuesday morning at $75,000. The juvenile offenders were released pending formal charges.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are expected.
