MCLEANSBORO, IL — A theft charge was filed against former McLeansboro Light Plant Superintendent James Joiner Monday in Hamilton County Court.

Hamilton County State’s Attorney Justin Hood says the charge reads that between Dec. 27, 2017 to Jan. 25, 2019, Joiner knowingly obtained unauthorized control over city property that included a plasma cutter, floor jack, compression tester, cooler, lawn mower, battery, proto power and extension cord with the intent to deprive the city permanently of the use of said property. The value exceeded $500 but less than $10,000.

Joiner, of McLeansboro, posted $1,500 cash bond Tuesday. He will have his first appearance Thursday morning at 9 at the Hamilton County Courthouse.

Joiner was suspended without pay in May after being accused of allegedly stealing city property.
